Circulation

Circulation is the first step in keeping your spa water sparkling clear. Make sure to run your spa filter system at least four hours per day, whether it's two hours in the morning and two at night or all four hours in the middle of the day.

Filtration

A properly operating filter system prevents most spa problems by capturing the hair, oils, and cosmetics that wash off in the spa. The filter catches these items and keeps your spa clean and clear. However, it is important that you chemically clean your filter about every six weeks with SpaGuard Filter Cleaner and Degreaser. A filter that is cleaned regularly can be reused several times. We also suggest a weekly treatment of SpaGuard Water Clarifier to join together particles that are too small to be captured in the filter.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning of the spa surface is easy and fast. We recommend that you clean the inside surface of the spa with SpaGuard Surface Cleaner every time you drain and refill. We also recommend using SpaGuard Natural Spa Enzyme to reduce scum line build up in your spa between refills.

Draining and Refilling

We recommend draining and refilling your spa about every three months. A spa will eventually become too saturated with dissolved minerals and chemicals to the point that it is no longer sanitary. By using the simple formula below, you can figure out how often you should be draining your spa:

Spa gallons divided by daily bathers divided by 3 = days between draining

For example:  (300 gallons / 2 bathers per day) / 3  = 50 days

Before you drain, add the recommended dosage of Spa System Flush to clean out the lines in your spa. Once you've drained the spa, you'll clean the spa surfaces with SpaGuard Surface Cleaner, restore its shine with Gel Gloss and then refill the spa with fresh water.

Testing

Testing is another key component to keeping your spa safe and clean. We recommend testing three main elements at least twice a week. Test and maintain your sanitizer level, whether you are using SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate, SpaGuard Brominating Concentrate, SpaGuard Bromine Tablets, or Soft Soak. You should also test your pH and total alkalinity level at the same time as your sanitizer. We also recommend bringing your water into Rose City Pool & Spa Service to have it professionally analyzed. With Alex, our computerized water analysis program, we are able to test for calcium hardness, pH, total alkalinity, total and free chlorine, bromine, total dissolved solids, copper, iron, algaecide, cyanuric acid, and more.
